LOCAL AREA

Goldfinch cottage is located in the coastal village of Happisburgh in Norfolk, home to the oldest working lighthouse in East Anglia.

The local area is steeped in history and finds such as flint tools, early fossilised human footprints and a mammoth skeleton in West Runton have earned the Norfolk coastline the name the Deep History Coast.

North Norfolk boasts many beautiful beaches which are great for swimming, rock pooling, beachcombing, fossil hunting, and even surfing or bodyboarding. Most beaches have dog friendly areas.

Horsey Gap and Winterton on Sea are famous for a large Atlantic Grey seal colony and you can see them swimming in the sea or basking on the beach. Naturally you should keep your distance, particularly during pupping season and ensure dogs are on leads.

The Norfolk Broads are on our doorstep and at nearby Wroxham you can take a tour of the Broads, river trip or be skipper for the day and rent your own boat.

When you're near the sea you cannot leave without sampling freshly caught, fish, crab or lobster. Local restaurants and cafes usually have this on their menu but it's dependant on what the fishermen have brought in that morning.

There is so much to explore in Norfolk but sometimes it's just nice to sit on the beach, close your eyes and listen to the waves ... doing nothing!

Such a beautiful cottage with such attention to detail. Comfortable and truly 5 star. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return.
